Pre-game updates

Odds (21:45): The Broncos are 9-point underdogs, the largest spread in the NFL this week. But two former greats who appeared on ESPN’s pregame show believe it will be a close game. Randy Moss and Tedy Bruschi picked the Broncos to cover the spread. They played all of their away games this season and picked up three straight wins from Denver. — Renck

Broncos inactive (09:33):

  • QB Zach Wilson (3rd QB)
  • S PJ Locke (thumb)
  • TE Greg Dulcich
  • CB Damarri Mathis
  • CB Kris Abrams-Draine
  • OLB Dondrea Tillman
  • OL Frank Crum

Denver has DL Eyioma Uwazurike this week. Second time for him (LAC). They activated him, and so far the two top rushers on the schedule have an extra linebacker (in this case, Mathis) between them. — Gabriel

Good morning from Baltimore (09:26): A perfect day in Charm City. And there’s a big game between the 5-3 Ravens and the 5-3 Broncos. This is quite easily Denver’s biggest test of the year. It’s a toss-up between Denver’s defense and Baltimore’s offense, and question after question between Baltimore’s secondary and the Broncos’ passing offense. — Gabriel

Observation report (9am): See how the Broncos match up with the Ravens Ryan McFadden’s scouting report.

Game predictions

Parker Gabriel, beat writer: Ravens 26, Broncos 17

So far, the Broncos have done exactly what they were supposed to do and then some. They beat bad teams and took advantage of the breaks the schedule threw at them. They also found a way to win all three away games. That’s the recipe for a good start behind a dominant defense, terrific special teams and a competent offense. But they will need more in the next three weeks. They can slow down Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and company in a way that not many defenses can. Can the offense do enough to keep up? This part still seems aspirational.

Ryan McFadden, beat writer: Broncos 27, Ravens 24

I can be against everyone, but who cares? Yes, it will be difficult to contain the Ravens’ offense through four quarters. However, Baltimore’s pass defense is weak, which should give the Broncos hope. If Sean Payton follows the same script as the Tampa Bay game and leaps and attacks Baltimore’s weak spot, Denver will have a chance to prove the doubters wrong.

Troy Renck, columnist: Ravens 27, Broncos 22

The Broncos played a Charmin-soft schedule, which means the smart guys believed they were going to need Kleenex from now on. Denver is a heavy underdog facing a Ravens team ready to play tough ball. There’s something different about this Denver team. The players have self-confidence and superiority. The Broncos won’t back down; They’ll make Lamar Jackson one-dimensional, but Denver’s inability to connect on deep shots will prove the difference. Denver will look back on this game as the moment they knew they could compete in the AFC and parlay that into future wins. But that won’t happen on Sunday.

Sean Keeler, columnist: Ravens 24, Broncos 20

Can the Broncos win a game where Bo Nix has to throw 42 or more times? They’re not there yet. And he’s probably not there yet… Don’t let the Shedeur Sanders-like passing line against Carolina fool you. The Ravens usually have about three inexplicable losses in a given regular season. But alas, they’ve already consumed two, and the taste of that Cleveland scent is still fresh in many mouths.
