Bride Didn’t Let Her Mother’s Boyfriend Walk Her Down the Aisle on Wedding Day

A bride refuses to let her mother’s boyfriend walk her down the aisle.

In a post reddit‘s popular “Am I A——–?” The 24-year-old bride-to-be told the forum how her 48-year-old mother “pressured” her 50-year-old boyfriend to accompany her down the aisle in place of her late father. But he wants to walk alone.

“My father passed away when I was 10 and my mother started dating her boyfriend about six years ago,” the bride wrote in her post. “Although he was always nice to me, I never saw him as a father figure. He came into my life when I was already an adult and we are friendly but not very close.”

The bride believes that the best way to honor her independence and her father’s memory is to walk down the aisle on her own. Her mother disagrees, saying that her boyfriend deserves recognition for the huge role he plays in her life.

“She was really upset, saying her boyfriend ‘deserved’ this award by being by my side all these years,” the bride wrote of her mother. “She even accused me of disrespecting her relationship and trying to ‘erase’ my father, which is far from the truth.”

She continued: “Now her boyfriend is avoiding me and my mom calls me selfish and says I ruined the wedding before it even started… But it’s my wedding and I feel like I have to have the final say.”

Some family members advised the bride to let her mother’s boyfriend walk her down the aisle just to “keep the peace.” But he asked Reddit users to weigh in.

The comment above reads in part, “This is your wedding, and I hope it’s your only wedding! It should be perfect for you and your partner’s needs and desires. It’s not an area for discussion.” “Your mother is being manipulative and demeaning.”

“This is not about disrespecting anyone, it’s about honoring my father and making my wedding feel right to me,” the bride added in the comments section. “It hurts that instead of understanding my reasons, she turned this into something manipulative. Thank you for validating my perspective.”
