FBI and Seattle police investigation leads to arrest in Bremerton

A Bremerton man was arrested at his home on Callow Avenue and charged with possessing and selling depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct after Bremerton police received tips from both the Seattle Police Department and the FBI.

According to the probable cause for his arrest, 45-year-old Vincent Battaglia had likely been sharing sexually explicit images involving minors for several years. A Seattle detective began investigating the case after social media and messaging platform Kik notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a user had uploaded a file containing sexually explicit content involving children in October. It was stated that one of the IP addresses accessing the reported account was traced to Battaglia.

The FBI also contacted Bremerton police in October, and Battaglia was also identified in an undercover operation. An undercover agent was chatting with a user known as “the person.” When a message was exchanged with a person creating an emergency, the FBI searched the location of the user’s cell phone twice. A search, or “ping,” yielded the address just behind Battaglia’s home, the latter near Bremerton High School.

A search warrant was obtained on Nov. 15, and Bremerton officers found a USB flash drive in Battaglia’s bedroom containing a sexually explicit video file involving minors.

Battaglia made his first court appearance in Kitsap County Superior Court on Monday, at which time he pleaded not guilty to both charges. Judge William Houser set bail at $500,000 at the request of the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office; The prosecution argued that Battaglia posed a great risk to society due to the evidence in the police’s possession dating back to 2015.

Battaglia is scheduled to appear in court next December 12. Battaglia is currently in custody at the Kitsap County Jail.
