Man accused of strangling his wife unconscious

Jonesboro, Ark. (KAIT) – A Jonesboro man faces aggravated assault charges after police say he strangled his wife until she lost consciousness and control of her bodily functions.

Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Friday to indict 45-year-old David Shook on a charge of aggravated assault on a family member or family member (Class D felony).

According to court documents, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Thorn Street on Nov. 20.

The victim told officers Shook “became angry” around 9 p.m. on Nov. 19.

He said he “held her down and strangled her until she lost consciousness and lost bodily functions.”

The victim said Shook left after the alleged assault.

The affidavit stated that the woman had scars on the right side of her face, a cut behind her left ear, and bruises on her arms and legs.

On November 21, Shook agreed to a Mirandized interview at the police station.

Detective Madison Dobbs noted in court documents that Shook “admitted to wounding his wife and strangling her.”

Shook remains in custody in lieu of a $35,000 cash/surety bond and is expected to appear in circuit court on Jan. 24.

Fowler also issued a no-contact order after noting that Shook was on parole due to a “very long history of violence.”
