According to the accusations, St. Paul bar customer tracked ahead of robbery and shooting

According to charges filed this week, a 42-year-old man was arrested in St. It turns out that while Paul was drinking at his bar, a bartender and a man were watching his movements and communicating with other people. When he goes out he too robbed and shot.

The victim was initially able to talk to police, but he suffered a heart attack and was not expected to survive, the criminal complaint said.

Now, the Ramsey County District Attorney’s Office has charged the bartender and a man. Two more people have been charged but their cases will remain sealed until their arrest.

The incident took place around 15.45 on October 30 in St. It came about when Paul’s went to Born’s Bar on Rice Street. The next day, she spoke to investigators at the hospital and said that when she did, a man walked out. A short man he didn’t know but saw around asked him for a cigarette. The people with the man had taken off their hoods, he noted this since it was not cold.

He said that’s when “a fight started” and several people were involved. He reported that he fell to the ground and money came out of his pocket. He thought he had about $4,500 in cash because he planned to buy a “little bike.”

Someone yelled, “Bang your swearing!” he shouted. He was hit and felt a burning sensation in his stomach.

Officers responded to the bar at around 17.45 on October 30th regarding the incident. The victim was lying on the ground in front of the bar, having been shot just below his navel. Fire officials took him to Regional Hospital and he was immediately taken into surgery.

Police found a cross necklace and broken silver and gold necklaces on the ground. There was also an iPhone.

Evidence on video and phones

The victim told police that the bartender, whom she identified as Erica, “spilled too much of the drinks she made for him,” the complaint said. He paid in cash.

The owner of Born’s Bar declined to comment on the lawsuit Friday.

Among the items police seized at the scene was a wallet that the victim told police did not belong to him. Police said St. He located a driver’s license belonging to Edward G. Robinson, 43, of St. Paul. The iPhone found at the scene belonged to Robinson.

Robinson’s phone call showed that Erica Ruth Hampton, a 41-year-old bartender at Born’s who has a son with Robinson, called him around 4 p.m. Security camera footage from the bar showed that Hampton was mixing drinks with a phone to his ear at the time.

The video also shows Robinson and Hampton’s 24-year-old son and a man wearing a pink sweatshirt arriving at the bar at 4:25 p.m.

At 4:53 p.m., the victim purchased another drink from Hampton and went out onto the porch, where Hampton followed her and was apparently texting on her phone, the complaint said.

At 5:06 p.m., Robinson received a call from a 44-year-old man, who then contacted a 39-year-old man.

At 5:37 p.m., Robinson and the 39-year-old “appeared on camera and hung on the sidewalk in front of Born’s Bar,” the complaint said. Robinson and Hampton’s son and the man in the pink sweatsuit got out of a car headed for Hampton.

The 44-year-old man texted Robinson at 5:42 p.m., saying: “He’s acting like he’s afraid to go out,” and the complaint said the man was apparently tracking the victim’s location and movements.

Robinson was keeping watch from the windows of the bar. The victim left the bar and Robinson soon began fighting with him, the complaint said. The complaint stated that 39-year-old Robinson’s son and the man in the pink sweatsuit “were approaching a fight.” The 39-year-old man waved a gun at the victim’s head and the man in the pink shirt also held a gun.

The 39-year-old man pointed his gun at the victim’s torso and shot him. Analysis of the shell casing found at the scene showed it was fired from the same gun used in a 2022 shooting in Milwaukee, the complaint states. The complaint stated that the 39-year-old had ties to the area.

The bartender said he didn’t tip anyone

The victim’s wife contacted investigators on November 1 and reported that the victim had fluid in his lungs and blood in his stomach. He had a heart attack but doctors brought him back to life. He was on life support when charges were filed against Hampton on Friday.

Police on Thursday in St. He arrested Hampton of St. Paul. She said she was working at the bar on Oct. 30 and the owner called her back “because there was a problem between her son and his father,” the complaint said. He said he immediately went back to the bar and watched the security cameras with the bar owner.

An officer asked the homeowner if he recognized anyone in the surveillance video, Hampton said.

Regarding his response to police, the complaint said, “He did not answer the officer’s question because he had nothing to do with the incident.”

Hampton said he remembered the victim being at the bar but did not leave because he had been off work beforehand. When police told him that records “showed he notified his son” when the victim called him minutes before leaving the bar, Hampton said he had nothing to do with the incident. He said he didn’t call anyone and didn’t tell them about the victim’s money at the bar.

Hampton is accused of aiding a criminal by becoming an accessory after the fact. Richardson is charged with first-degree assault and aiding and abetting robbery. He has prior convictions for third-degree assault, terroristic threats and a federal drug case, the complaint said.

The duo’s attorney could not be reached for comment Friday.
