The Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association is launching a fundraiser following the deaths of two deputies Thursday.

John Kazanjian of the Police Benevolent Association told WPTV Corporal Luis Paez and Deputy Ralph “Butch” Waller were the sole breadwinners for their families. He said they’ve already given each family a check for $77,000.

“This always seems to happen around holiday time,” Kazanjian said. “Now we’re having Thanksgiving, Christmas. “I feel sorry for that family.”

He said he knew Corporal Luis Paez after spending more than three decades with the sheriff’s office. He said he loved riding his motorcycle.

“As long as I knew him, he was always riding his motorcycle,” he said. “…He had a passion for horse riding. All three did this. They will all be truly missed.

Kazanjian said Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz is constantly on his mind. Diaz continues to fight for his life and is in critical but stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.
