Comedian Paul Rodriguez reveals his best friend died at home at age 50

Comedian Paul Rodriguez announced Thursday that his best friend, Donald Serrato, has died at his home at the age of 50.

Serrato had sold his own home in Torrance and was staying at Rodriguez’s Los Angeles-area home for a few days before moving to Montana.

Authorities believe Serrato died of natural causes and do not suspect drugs or abuse were involved, law enforcement sources said.

Rodriguez thinks Serrato’s alleged excessive drinking and smoking, as well as his grief over two losses in his family, may have contributed to his death.

He explained that he left home around 6 a.m. on Thursday to go to a movie shoot and then called Serrato around 12 a.m. to make lunch plans.

But when he didn’t get a response to his phone call, he said he contacted Serrato’s girlfriend, who later visited the house to check on him. TMZ.

The girlfriend arrived at Rodriguez’s home and was greeted with the sight of Serrato turning blue in bed.

She and a friend called emergency services and a 911 operator guided them in attempts to perform CPR, but Serrato was already dead.

Law enforcement officials said they received a call around 12:30 a.m. Thursday about a man not breathing.

Emergency services responded by visiting Rodriguez’s home and finding Serrato, who they pronounced dead at the scene.

Born in Sinaloa before immigrating to Compton with his family, Rodriguez has been a comedian for more than four decades.

He is a regular at stand-up shows and one of the elite comedians whose photos hang on the wall of the iconic Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

Early in his career, Rodriguez even directed the cast of his own comedy series, Pablo, in 1984, which he thought was canceled after six episodes.

Over the years, fans have seen her on popular television shows like The Golden Girls, Touched By An Angel, and The Twilight Zone.

Rodriguez has appeared in live-action films such as the 2002 Clint Eastwood film Blood Work and 2021’s Clifford The Big Red Dog.

He recently wrote and directed a crime comedy called Holy Cash; It featured a cast that included comedian Aries Spears.
