MPD announced the arrest of 40-year-old Krista Charrisse Oates in a press release.

Police said officers responded to a domestic disturbance report of multiple shots fired around 6:19 p.m. Thursday.

Officers spoke with the uninjured victim, who reported that Oates attacked him with a baseball bat before attacking him with a firearm, according to the news release. Police said multiple shell casings were found at the scene and the vehicle Oates used to flee the scene was found at his home.

Responding officers established a perimeter around the residence and activated the department’s Special Response Team, crisis negotiators and the Criminal Investigations Unit to assist.

After negotiators contacted Oates by phone, Oates left the house and was taken into custody at 8:23 p.m., police said. A search warrant was executed at the home and detectives found the firearm and bat used in the attack, according to the report.

Oates was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor firearm within city limits, misdemeanor communicating threats, and felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

Oates was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. A judge ordered him held without bail.
