Houses flooded due to heavy rain in Uganda

At least 13 people have died in a landslide in eastern Uganda, but authorities fear the real death toll is much higher as at least 40 homes were flooded.

Landslides triggered by heavy rains affected many villages in the Bulambuli district, about 280 km (178 miles) from the capital Kampala.

While the Uganda Red Cross Society stated that at least 13 people died, AFP reported that the death toll could be up to 30 people.

The Uganda Red Cross Society said a rescue operation was ongoing in X.

According to local newspaper, most of the recovered bodies belong to children Daily Monitor. There is still no news from dozens of people.

Heavy rains have flooded the East African country for the past few days.

On Wednesday, the Prime Ministry issued a disaster warning about X.

River banks burst, flooding schools and churches, destroying bridges and isolating communities.

The army was deployed to assist in search and rescue efforts.
