Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur appoints vice-captains for 2025

Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur has appointed homegrown duo Cam Smith and Ash Handley as the club’s co-captains for 2025.

England international Handley was Smith’s vice-captain last season but the pair will now share the responsibility between them in 2025.

Arthur confirms appointments rhinos Thursday morning playgroup.

“Cam and Ash will have equal responsibility and share the role,” he said Arthur. “They can both focus on their own game and lean on each other.

“We will have a leader at the back and forwards, whether it is in games or training.

“They are two people who are proud of our history and heritage and it is important to be local players.

“We all trust and respect them and that is vital when choosing captains. “They will lead by example and set the standards we set as a group for this season.”

Smith said: “I I’m so happy to share this role with Ash. “We have embarked on this journey together, shoulder to shoulder, we have a truly exciting squad and I look forward to a successful year with the team.”

Handley added: “I’m honored and very proud to be chosen as co-captain. We’ve got a huge year ahead of us. It’s about what we do going forward and we want to get this club where it belongs.”

“Everyone in the group has bought into it both on and off the pitch and they know what is expected of them. “The standard of training in the first two weeks has been impressive.

“Me and Cam can support each other, which hopefully brings our best in our performances as well. Brad has made it clear what he wants from us but it’s not just about the two of us, there are expectations from each member of the team and we will all take things our own way.”
