Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade delayed by pro-Palestinian protesters, 21 arrested

A group of pro-Palestinian protesters briefly delayed the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City on Thursday, leading to delays and 21 arrests.

Protesters at W. 55th St. and began obstructing the parade after passing the barriers on 6th Ave. The footage shows just over a dozen demonstrators sitting with a large banner reading “Do not celebrate the Holocaust” and “free”. Palestine”, “return to the land”, among other messages.

Following Hamas’ attack, pro-Palestinian protests flared on October 7, 2023, amid the ongoing Gaza Strip war between Israel and Hamas. To date, more than 41,000 people have died and more than 96,700 have been injured, according to ABC News.

Throughout the summer, protesters occupied college campuses across the country, including the Westwood campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Emory University, Northwestern University, Cornell University and more.

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced that the prime ministers of Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a ceasefire. But before the agreement came into force on Wednesday morning, Israeli air strikes on Beirut continued to decrease.

Biden said, “According to the agreement reached today, effective tomorrow morning at 04:00 local time, the conflicts on the Lebanon/Israel border will end.” “This means a permanent cessation of hostilities… I emphasize that Hezbollah and the remnants of other terrorist organizations will not be allowed to threaten Israel’s security again.”

Biden continued: “Over the next 60 days, the Lebanese army and state security forces will deploy and take control of their territory. “And over the next 60 days, Israel will gradually withdraw its remaining forces.”

Additionally, Biden called out Hamas’ refusal to negotiate a ceasefire in its own good faith, saying that at the suggestion of Israel/Hezbollah, the United States and other countries “will make another attempt in the coming days to negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.” .”
