Here’s Why Maggie Haberman Thinks Donald Trump Might Stick To Elon Musk

Maggie Haberman of the New York Times explained why she believes President-elect Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk’s business relationship could last quite a while.

Trump tapped Musk to run an unofficial government department that will try to cut public spending. Reports have emerged that Trump allies are unhappy with Musk’s presence at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago base, his participation in transition meetings, and his growing influence over the returning US president.

But Haberman said on CNN on Wednesday that Trump and Musk are currently “on good terms” and that Trump has not shown any public signs that he is fed up with Musk.

Haberman said that Trump “never loved anyone around him for very long” and that “one of the things that people around him realized over time is that scarcity is a commodity to them if they want to live a long life with him.”

But Haberman said Trump “has a great admiration for wealth” and “equates wealth with intelligence.” “And I actually think this relationship could last quite a long time.”

“When relationships start to become problematic in Trump’s mind, that’s usually when one starts attracting negative headlines that reflect on Trump,” he added. “That’s not happening right now.”
