While McDaniel has been charged in five separate cases, police are not ignoring the fact that McDaniel may be linked to other unsolved murders.

Police did not say why but BPD PIO Fitzgerald said: “We are investigating some of these murders as paid murders.”

The Birmingham Police Department cited ‘rental payment’ as a possible motive during a press conference about the shooting in Five Points South the day after the incident.

McDaniel’s arrest was announced by BPD on October 16. McDaniel made his first court appearance on Oct. 17 before being charged in connection with the other mass shooting and the August murder.

Court records also show McDaniel pleaded guilty in 2023 to two counts of attempted murder and received a 15-year prison sentence divided by two years with three years of probation.

ABC 33/40 reached out to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office to ask if anything will be done in the future to release McDaniel and keep violent criminals behind bars.

This story will be updated when a response is received.

“As far as them walking the streets, all the evidence points to them having done it, then it’s no use,” said Birmingham resident Harold Johnson.

He said he feels safer for the community knowing that McDaniel, who is accused of multiple fatal shootings, is in custody.

“I think people like that should be removed,” he said.

McDaniel is in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

The Birmingham Police Department asks anyone with additional information about any of these cases to contact them.
