The A90 Toyota Supra Final Edition Is a GT4 Racer-Style Sendoff for the Streets

2019 to 2025 is a good run for a one-generation super niche car. Toyota Supra. But I’m still a little saddened by the realization that the A90 body style will soon be discontinued. The extremely limited edition Final Edition cars will serve as a send-off… and a pretty cool one at that. This thing looks like the perfect car for the Batman x Fast & Furious crossover in a good way, and it gets a nice power boost too. But the really nice aspects are the aero and suspension tuning made with Gazoo Racing’s GT4 technology.

Toyota actually announced There are two special versions of the Supra on the market today. The Final Edition in question will be available only in Europe and Japan and will be limited to 300 units. Seasoned Partially Upgraded trim will also arrive, which will be sold in more markets (full list TBA).

The Final Edition’s equipment is quite comprehensive and includes many technologies and concepts from Toyota Gazoo’s European racing organisation.

Engine upgrades include a revised intake and exhaust with a low-backpressure catalytic converter and Akrapovič titanium muffler. With the new engine tuning, Toyota Gazoo Racing claims that power has been increased from 381 hp to 429 hp. They specifically said it went from 387 hp to 435 hp, but I know most of you don’t bother with metric horsepower. Torque claim increases from 369 lb-ft to 420.

Supporting mods include an oil pan baffle that helps keep the engine lubricated during heavy turns, a new lower radiator, a more powerful radiator cooling fan, and new cooling fins on the rear differential.

Adjustable KW suspension system GR Supra GT4 racing carIt was replaced with reinforced front and rear stabilizers, which had 16 rebound stages and 12 compression stages.

There are also new supports all over the car, and of course you can see the crossbars designed to increase rigidity in the trunk area (and make the Supra look cooler). The differential control has been adjusted and the electric power steering control has also been adjusted to match the increased rigidity; Front and rear camber characteristics have been adjusted to focus on cornering grip.

Exterior aero ideas were also taken from the GR Supra GT4, and you can tell from the wind tunnel photo that Toyota Gazoo isn’t kidding here. There is a front spoiler made of carbon fiber, front wings, front center hatch and of course a large swan neck spoiler at the rear. It looks a bit odd to have the ducktail attached to it, but I believe Toyota’s wind tunnel team knows what they’re doing. There’s also a removable carbon fiber header channel that can allegedly improve cooling performance.

All this awesomeness rolls on staggered lightweight wheels (19 inches front, 20 inches rear) on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high-grip tires that are 10 percent wider than standard Supras. The brakes are huge Brembos with stainless lines.

The interior is filled with a very nice set of Recaro Podium CF seats and Alcantara trim. I can’t say the cockpit looks comfortable, but it is very cool.

The entire package eschews comfort in favor of race car parts, so the A90 Supra Final Edition will likely be an absolute riot driving around the tracks and a few pristine roads while getting miserable elsewhere. But that’s fine; A car like this has to be very powerful. I hope the people who buy them (price TBA, but if you have to ask…) put the items to use instead of letting them go. rot in private museums.

But wait, there’s more! An understated name for a strangely modified sports car, the new Partially Raised Supra also features some interesting tweaks to the base car. The brakes are slightly larger, there are a few small paddles on the body, and the interior is trimmed with Alcantara.

The Partially Lifted car’s powertrain features a new active differential control configuration to reduce understeer during cornering and improve handling, but the main additions appear to be body stiffening and suspension tweaks.

Electronically controlled shock absorbers were revised and the front stabilizer was strengthened. The front and rear stabilizers are made of reinforced aluminum, while some bushings are hardened to improve responsiveness and feel. There is reinforcement in the rear underfloor support structure to increase body rigidity, power steering has been adjusted and camber has also been adjusted to improve cornering grip at the expense of tire wear.

I’ve never driven a manual Supra, but I spent some time with the 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter versions when they first came out. I remember liking the design but being a bit lukewarm about the actual driving experience. Maybe shifting could change that. However, after looking at some of these pictures, I find myself wondering what they sell secondhand. What a great looking machine. I hope Toyota follows this up with another master.
