Former Black Hills Federal Credit Union employee pleads guilty to stealing 9,000

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Ashley Viken pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday afternoon to one count of bank fraud and six counts of theft by a Federal Credit Union employee.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred between July 2022 and March of this year, in which Viken issued cashier’s checks totaling $119,000 from Black Hills Federal Credit Union to other credit unions for his own benefit.

Both state prosecutors and Viken’s attorney have recommended that Viken serve 11 months in prison, but he could face up to 30 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine on each charge when he is sentenced on Feb. 11.
