Man arrested for stabbing roommate after heated argument on Thanksgiving Eve

An argument between roommates in the city of Erie turned violent Wednesday night.

That’s according to police who responded to the 100 block of East 22nd Street just after 11 p.m.

When they arrived at the scene, police saw a person fleeing the scene. When they entered, they found another man bleeding from a 3-inch stab wound just below his ribs.

Officers tracked down 54-year-old Lawrence Jones and arrested him. Police said Jones stabbed his roommate, 60-year-old Thomas Winnett, with a knife.

He was taken into custody and faces an aggravated assault charge.

Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said a third roommate heard the whole thing.

“Apparently there is more than one roommate in this house. Two of the roommates were arguing. When they spoke to a witness, another roommate in the area stated that things got heated and at one point he heard someone say they had been stabbed,” said Erie City Police Department Deputy Chief Rick Lorah.

Winnett was taken to Hamot hospital and his condition is critical but stable, Lorah added.

Jones has not yet been arraigned.
