Police say five people were held hostage when the man barricaded himself inside the Fayetteville home, refusing to leave

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — The Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) confirmed that a shooting that began Wednesday evening ended with a man in custody early Thanksgiving morning.

The incident began around 5 p.m. Wednesday when officers responded to the 4500 block of Spinel Drive regarding a domestic incident. They say Raekwon Sparrow refused to go outside and wouldn’t let anyone leave the house. According to Fayetteville police, there were three adults and two children inside. While negotiating with Sparrow to get out, a woman managed to escape from the house, police said.

Police said Sparrow surrendered around 1:30 a.m.

Neighbors say the children are a 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. They were banned from entering the homes of nearby people.

A person at the Cumberland County Detention Center confirmed Sparrow was being held there on felony and misdemeanor charges, including five felonies of first-degree kidnapping. He is also charged with breaking and entering with intent to terrorize or injure and violating a domestic violence protection order.

Police said they found a gun from the home.
