Urgent manhunt for dangerous rapist as police warn ‘do not approach’ | England | News

Police are searching for a convicted rapist who has not registered his address after members of the public were warned not to approach him. Officers say he was ‘actively avoiding’ them.

David Doherty, 58, of Doncaster, is wanted for two breaches of Sex Offender Notification Requirements and in connection with a report of him making threats to kill.

He was convicted of attempted rape and indecent assault in 2000. In 2014, Doherty was convicted of rape.

After his release from prison, he was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Police said as part of his registration requirements Doherty was required to register his address with officers regularly. But recently he failed to register his address properly.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has seen or spoken to Doherty recently or knows where he may be staying. He knows he is wanted and we believe he is actively evading officers.”

Doherty is described as a white man of slim build, 6 feet tall, with short graying light brown hair.

Officers believe Doherty is in the Scawthorpe or Balby areas of Doncaster but he also has links to Grimsby.

Police added: “If you see Doherty please do not approach him, instead call 999. If you have any further information about where he may be you can contact us via our online live chat, online portal or by calling 101.

“Please quote inquiry number 14/204158/24 when you contact.”
