At least nine people were killed and 25 people were injured when the bus traveling from Nagpur city of Maharashtra to Gondia city lost control and overturned on Friday.

According to images from the accident scene shared by news agency PTI, a large crowd gathered around the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus. Police vans, ambulances and cranes were also deployed to help the injured.

The incident took place around 12.30 pm in Bindravana Tola village on the Gondia-Arjuni road in Gondia district. According to the news agency, MSRTC’s ‘Shiv Shahi’ bus was carrying 36 passengers while heading towards Gondia and overturned while trying to overtake another vehicle.

The injured were taken to Gondia District Hospital.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that compensation of Rs 10 lakh will be paid to the next of kin of the deceased.

“Shivshahi bus of state transport overturned in a horrific accident. 8 bodies were removed from the scene and the death toll is expected to increase. Information about the situation was received from the local government. In the statement made by the CMO, it was stated that instructions have been issued for the immediate and appropriate treatment of the injured.

State BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis also expressed grief and expressed condolences over the tragic accident.

“It is very unfortunate that Shivshahi bus had an unfortunate accident near Sadak Arjun in Gondia district and some passengers lost their lives. I offer my most heartfelt respects to the deceased. We share the pain of their families. Those injured in this incident can be treated in a private hospital if necessary. I also told the Gondia Collector to make necessary arrangements to shift them to Nagpur if necessary. Senior administration officials have arrived at the scene and are coordinating relief efforts. “I pray to God that those injured in this incident recover as soon as possible,” he said.
