Police have launched a murder investigation and are now appealing for information about a dark-coloured Land Rover Discovery, believed to be a 2004 to 2009 model, in the Pleasley area just before 8pm on Tuesday.

Police said the vehicle was last seen in Rowthorne Lane before turning onto the A617 towards New Houghton. It is thought that there were two people inside; a man driving the car and a woman in the passenger seat.

A man and a woman in their thirties, from Skegby, Nottinghamshire, were previously arrested in connection with the incident. They were released without charge and excluded from the investigation.

“A team of detectives have been working non-stop since Tuesday, searching the area where Alana was killed, carrying out house-to-house inquiries and scanning CCTV in the area,” Ch Supt Kirby said.

“The two individuals arrested in connection with the incident have now been released without charge and are excluded from our investigation.”

He added: “We have already received a significant amount of information from the public and I would like to thank everyone who has already come forward to help our investigation. “But I know there is more information out there and there are people who know who the person responsible is.

“We would urgently like to hear from anyone who knows these two men, who has seen a Land Rover Discovery with front end damage, or who knows of a vehicle matching this description that may have been recently repaired or parts replaced.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who may have CCTV along the A617, particularly from this junction into New Houghton.

“I eventually want to return to Alana. “As a police officer, a member of the local community and a father, I am heartbroken for his young son, his family and friends and we will do everything we can to find those responsible.”
