Natchitoche mother arrested after child showed signs of drug overdose

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KSLA) – A Natchitoches mother was arrested on Nov. 25 after her child suffered from drug overdose symptoms.

Deputies responded to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center around 2 a.m. after a report of a 7-year-old child being treated for symptoms of a possible drug overdose. Medical staff told deputies the child was experiencing convulsions, seizures, unresponsiveness and fatigue. The child was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment.

After speaking with the 27-year-old mother, Chardreia T. Gibson, deputies learned the child may have eaten THC gummies at the home.

A search of the home was conducted and deputies met with Gibson’s friend, 22-year-old Aujaious Hale. Detectives seized Delta-9 High Potency THC gummies, 11 partially burned suspected marijuana cigarettes, five suspected ecstasy pills, two THC gummies in the trash can, two suspected marijuana leaves, drug paraphernalia, and approximately two grams of suspected synthetic marijuana in Hale’s car.

Gibson was arrested and charged with CDS I possession of marijuana, CDS I possession of ecstasy, cruelty to children, unlawful possession and use of a controlled substance in the presence of a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hale was issued a summons pending his appearance in court on charges of possession of CDS I marijuana and unlawful possession/use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a child.

Detectives said the child was later released from the trauma center and is in the care of relatives.
