Saugerties man charged with rape after being released from prison

KINGSTON, NY (NEWS10) — A Saugerties man was arrested on rape charges. Police said the man had sexual intercourse with a child multiple times over the summer.

Police say 21-year-old Ronald Burris III was communicating electronically with a 14-year-old girl while he was incarcerated at the Ulster County Jail in early September. Burris was in jail on an unrelated charge. According to police, the communication was sexual in nature.

Police learned that before Burris was incarcerated, he and the girl had sexual intercourse several times over the summer.

Burris was scheduled to be released on November 20 on an unrelated charge, but when he was released, police interviewed him, arrested him, and charged him with second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in Saugerties Town Justice Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail on $30,000 cash bail, $60,000 surety or $90,000 partially secured bond.
