After the initial investigation, the police considered the possibility that the incident could be theft due to the loss of gold items in the house.

An elderly couple and their son were found murdered at their farmhouse in Palladam in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur on Friday morning, police officials aware of the matter said on Friday.

The deceased were identified as 78-year-old farmer Deivasigamani, his wife Alamelu (75) and their son Senthil Kumar. Kumar, an IT worker, lived in nearby Coimbatore district and had come to meet his parents on Thursday night to accompany them to a family function. They added that he survived with his wife and two children.

The three bodies were first spotted by a local barber on Friday morning. Police said Deivasigamani allegedly asked him to visit the house.

After the initial investigation, the police considered the possibility that the incident could be a theft due to the loss of gold items in the house. However, they added that the police were investigating the incident from different angles.

“Five special teams have been constituted to investigate all angles related to the triple murder,” Tiruppur City Police Commissioner S Lakshmi said. “We are looking at whether the family has had any enmity with anyone before,” the commissioner added.

“We found the bodies of the man and his mother inside the farmhouse, while his father’s body was found outside. He may have gone out after hearing strangers entering the farmhouse. A police officer said about eight gold coins were stolen from the house.

The incident comes at a time when opposition parties in Tamil Nadu are accusing the DMK government of worsening the law and order situation in the state.

AIADMK general secretary and opposition leader Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) said criminals were not afraid under the DMK regime. “It makes us wonder whether there is a government that can prevent crimes in the state,” EPS said and asked chief minister MK Stalin to instruct the police department to arrest the accused soon.
