Broncos QB Bo Nix Breaks Silence on Winning Third Consecutive ROTW Award

Broncos QB Bo Nix Breaks Silence on Winning Third Consecutive ROTW Award

There is suddenly a tremendous amount of hype and media scrutiny surrounding Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix. He was overlooked in the first quarter of the season but was named Rookie of the Month (October) in the next frame.

Since then, Nix’s stock has steadily risen in NFL media circles, and after winning his award Third consecutive Rookie of the Week awardperhaps reaching a critical mass. So, either he will explode and slowly return to a modest rookie average, or he will break through the current ceiling and enter another stratosphere.

Even star NFL quarterbacks like Joe Burrow They praise Nix and put his name on the same level as the likes of Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and even Patrick Mahomes. This is the outside view, including my theory about Nix’s critical mass.

Internally, Nix’s vision is quite nearsighted; He is solely focused on the next encounter. Monday Night Football Throwing against Jameis Winston and Cleveland Browns. For now, Nix isn’t letting himself focus on the praise and accolades.

“Not exactly. All I can focus on is the next game (and) the next opponent,” Nix said Friday. “What can I do to win, what can I do to help the team win, and right now he’s just executing on that.”

Nix has been in the spotlight, so to speak, for many years. Although the NFL is a completely different ball game, this isn’t its first rodeo crossing the deep waters of the SEC and PAC-12.

The rookie understands that off-field media and fan voices will always be there. It’s the NFL. But if a quarterback isn’t playing well, he can quickly become a media worm.

“There will always be off-field stuff,” Nix said. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t play well. The only thing I’m worried about right now is the next opponent, and that’s Cleveland. We just have to play well and keep doing the things we’ve done in the past. This game is a few weeks away.”

These are the platitudes of a seasoned veteran, not a traditional rookie. Perhaps this is due to Nix’s relative age (24) and the fact that he entered the NFL as the most experienced college quarterback coming out of the draft. His 61st career start remains an NCAA record.

This explains much of Nix’s mature perspective. However, most of the work is the child’s character. He eats, sleeps and breathes football and his IQ for the game is off the charts.

This mental process, combined with his arm and unique athletic abilities, creates a particularly striking image of a quarterback. Nix may be the sixth quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he managed to reach the pole position.

With the last quarter of the season to be played, Nix now has a chance to surpass Jayden Daniels, who is ranked 2nd in the overall rankings. Washington Commandersand win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Daniels has long been the likely favorite to win the ORoY.

Considering how long the Broncos have been wandering in the quarterback desert, such success would be manna from football heaven to the fans and the team in general. But the biggest accomplishment, according to Nix, will be getting the Broncos back to the playoffs, where the team hasn’t appeared since capturing the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl 50.

Remember Nix’s words to Payton on Draft Day when he got the call informing him that the Broncos would select him? Nix asked Payton, “Do you want to win a Super Bowl?” he said.

Such a possibility seemed like a slim possibility that would come many years down the road for Nix and the Broncos. Suddenly it doesn’t seem so far away.

On the season, Nix threw for 2,548 yards and 16 touchdowns, completing 64.9% of his passes with six interceptions. He is also the Broncos’ second-leading rusher with over 300 yards and four extra touchdowns and even scored a touchdown as a pass receiver in Baltimore.

Nix’s 21 total touchdowns are the most among NFL rookie quarterbacks. And its one recent achievements puts him on par with multiple quarterbacks enshrined in or tied to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It’s a little scary.

Nix joins Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to throw for 20 or more total touchdowns and two or fewer turnovers in a 10-game season. Let that sink in.
