Bellingham has striking claim among five reasons for Liverpool’s loss after Alexander-Arnold swap

Jude Bellingham believes Real Madrid deserved to lose to Liverpool in the Champions League due to the difference in attitude and tactical approach at Anfield.

Reigning champions Real suffered their third defeat in five Champions League matches on Wednesday and suffered a well-deserved defeat. Liverpool.

Bellingham was ineffective against a team that desperately tried to sign him a few years ago; He attributed this struggle to a lack of “control” and regular turnovers when counter-attacking.

“To be honest, they were more into it than we were,” he told TNT Sports.

“It’s a bad result against the best performing team in Europe. It’s no shame to come here and lose but we are disappointed with our performance.

“They took control of the game from the first minute. We never really maximized the spells we had. When we got the ball back we tried to counter-attack a few times.

“We turned it around so much that they managed to keep control. Defensively they kept us in a spot where we couldn’t hurt them too much.”

Bellingham also cleared the blame for Kylian Mbappe’s penalty miss in the second half with Real trailing 1-0, with Caoimhin Kelleher making a superb save to keep a clean sheet.

“The pressure from being so good is huge,” Bellingham said.

“The reason we lost the match was not the penalty. As a team, we were not good enough on the night. They performed better than us and it is that simple.

“Kylian can hold his head high. I’m sure he will create many more important moments for this club.”

Bellingham swapped shirts with England team-mate and close friend Trent Alexander-Arnold after the match for Ryan Gravenberch, although the Liverpool right-back did not come off the bench at Anfield.

Conor Bradley has done well enough to replace him. Mbappe challenges to set tone in first half.

Real manager Carlo Ancelotti tried to defend the Frenchman after the match, saying: “This has happened many times in my career, when you are a striker you want to score goals and gain some confidence.

“It’s a difficult moment for him, I think Mbappe, it’s a difficult moment where we have to support him and give him our love, he will recover soon.

“Maybe there is a lack of trust, sometimes maybe when things are not going well, the goal is to keep things simple, not to complicate life.

“You don’t need to blame him for missing penalties, people miss penalties, it happens a lot.”
