Three more ‘zama zama’ emerged from Stilfontein mine

Police confirmed the trio left Well 10 on Thursday morning.

More miners were expected to arrive throughout the day.

The latest group resurfaced just a day after 20 miners from Mozambique, Lesotho and Zimbabwe emerged from the Margaret shaft on Wednesday.

According to police, more than 1,300 suspects have been arrested since police stepped up anti-illegal mining operations in the state.

Meanwhile, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu confirmed he will visit the area on Friday.

Mchunu is expected to hold talks with concerned family members of suspected illegal miners.

Since the start of Operation Vala Umgodi in December 2023, more than 13,691 suspects have been arrested in seven provinces marked as hotspots for illegal mining.
