Food officials carried out inspections at various restaurants in Hyderabad’s Lakdikapul area on November 26. The team visited one of the restaurants and were shocked by the mice and food waste. Officials also disclosed that Khan-E-Khas restaurant was operating without a valid FSSAI license and Pest Control Records, Medical Fitness Certificates and Water Analysis Reports were missing.

After entering the kitchen, the team immediately threw away the remaining food. The restaurant’s refrigerator was not only unhygienic, but was also improperly used to store both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items together.

The team also found mouse droppings on shelves used to store raw food items, confirming a rodent infestation in the kitchen. They also noted that the kitchen area was very small, making proper cleaning almost impossible.

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Food Safety Commissioner Telangana also shared a few images to prove their claims. One of the images showed leftover food from the previous day, while another showed images of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food stored together. Photos of the dirty floor and uncooked meat placed next to the trash can were also shared in the restaurant.

The team then examined Shahi Dastarkhan and found cockroaches in the kitchen. In this restaurant, the team noticed “greasy walls” and particles “shattering” from the kitchen ceiling. Just like Khan-E-Khas, this restaurant too had stagnant waters.

Expired food was also found on site, which the team immediately threw away.

Bademiyan Kebap was the next restaurant to fail to comply with food safety rules. In the kitchen, the team found cobwebs and synthetic food dyes thrown there. The team also noted that those working in the food industry were working without wearing bonnets and gloves.

The common problem in all three restaurants was the lack of insect proof screens in the kitchen which allowed insects to enter freely.
