Todmorden child sexual abuse report leads to arrests

The two men were arrested by police investigating reports of child sexual abuse in West Yorkshire in the 1980s.

Police arrested the men, aged 65 and 70, after a man reported childhood sexual abuse in the Todmorden area between 1987 and 1988.

Police said the men were arrested at addresses in Ilkeston, Derbyshire and Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Wednesday and released under investigation.

During searches of the property, a third man, aged 65, was arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children. Currently under investigation.

Inspector Emma Dillon, of Calderdale Safeguarding Unit, said: “Safeguarding and protecting children is a top priority for the force and this operation forms part of West Yorkshire Police’s ongoing commitment to investigating both current and imminent sexual offenses against children.

“The sexual abuse and exploitation of children is a disgusting and disgusting crime and affects some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

“We urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse to report it to the police, regardless of when it occurred.”
