Promising new Corktown restaurant Black Ginger closes suddenly

A creative and fresh Korean-American restaurant located in Corktown’s Trumbull and Porter Hotel has closed after less than six months.

“Due to a dispute with property, Black Ginger is unfortunately closing our doors,” the restaurant’s Instagram reads. “We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and thank you for all the support and enthusiasm you have shown to our food and staff over the past five months.”

The post hints at a comeback asking customers to stay tuned for updates.

Black Ginger’s menu was heavily influenced by Korean cuisine, and one of the signature dishes was a large portion of super crispy boneless Korean fried chicken, slathered in a sweet and sticky sauce, served with coleslaw and sesame sauce.

The restaurant, 1331 Trumbull in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, had a full bar program with liquor and beer from around the world, including Korean rice wine Soju.

The Detroit News has reached out to Black Ginger and Trumbull and Porter Hotel management for further comment on the sudden closure.
