Transforming Delhi’s Slums: A New Vision for Urban Housing

Transforming Delhi’s Slums: A New Vision for Urban Housing

Taking a significant step towards urban redevelopment, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved policy changes under the ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makaan’ Scheme. These changes will make slum projects more feasible and encourage greater involvement of developers.

At a meeting of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), chaired by Saxena, major changes in the slum and JJ policy were approved. These include density adjustments, land distribution for various components, and increased Floor Area Ratio (FAR) for building projects. The changes promise not only to provide dignified housing to slum dwellers but also to increase affordable housing and commercial spaces for the people of Delhi.

This initiative marks an important step towards social empowerment by providing modern housing and property rights to those living in informal settlements. It also integrates these communities into the formal urban landscape, increasing their social mobility and improving their quality of life. The proposal now awaits final approval from the Ministry of Housing and Urbanization.
