strange robbery

Last week, a woman allegedly tried to rob a convenience store using a spray can as a weapon.

At approximately 3:20 a.m. on November 12, 2024, Manhattan Beach Police Department (MBPD) officers responded to 1221 Artesia Blvd. received a call about a robbery at the 7-Eleven store located at .

Officers learned that moments earlier, a suspect had stolen approximately $10 to $15 worth of merchandise after using an aerosol can and a lighter to ignite the can’s spray to create a flame, then directed it at the store employee several times before leaving work. He was last seen walking south from his workplace.

MBPD contacted surrounding agencies to assist in identifying the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Kimberly Nation (DOB 03-28-1989), was arrested at 8:12 a.m. on November 18, 2024, by MBPD detectives with the assistance of an outside agency and an MBPD officer assigned to the Homeless Liaison Office. Mental Health Assessment Team uneventful.

Nation was booked into the Manhattan Beach Police Department jail for the following charges: 211 PC – Robbery and 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The LA County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and filed both charges against Nation.

road rage knife incident

MBPD responded to a report of a man brandishing a knife in the parking lot outside the Hangar Inn on Nov. 15 at approximately 3:45 p.m. Officers arriving at the scene received conflicting stories from witnesses. After further investigation, police teams determined that the incident was a traffic accident. One of the drivers allegedly brandished a knife, while the other brandished a large kitchen knife. According to the police report, no one was injured and there were no independent witnesses who could prove what actually happened. MBPD Detectives are following the incident.

bullet holes

Between November 15 and 17, someone opened fire on an unoccupied car parked in the 500 block of Meadows Boulevard. On Nov. 17, MBPD officers were called to the vehicle after the owner found three bullet holes in the car. Police are examining security cameras in the neighborhood to identify the attacker.

Theft

According to MBPD reports, a home in the 1500 block of 8th Street was burglarized on Nov. 20 between 4 and 9 p.m. The residents were outside and returned to the house to find the upstairs bedroom had been ransacked and three $1,000 gift cards were missing. Police believe the entry point was the second floor door. Detectives are asking nearby residents to view security video and contact MBPD if any potential suspects can be identified. emergency room
