Mongrel Mob gang members and an associate have been arrested after a man was speared in front of his young children.

Police said in a statement that they received several calls about the incident that occurred on Coates Street in Hamilton at around 11.30am on November 23.

Police said a man was walking his young children into his car with his partner when he was approached by two men he did not know dressed in Mongrel Mob attire.

“Conversations were had” before the man was allegedly attacked.

The man’s partner was also allegedly assaulted during the ordeal.

One of the gang members left before returning with a spear gun, with which one of the gang members allegedly shot the man in the leg.

They all fled the scene and the man was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

He has since undergone surgery to remove the spear and is in stable condition, police said.

A number of search warrants were executed in connection with the investigation, some of which used the Armed Offenders Squad.
