The Nigerian Police Force says police inspector Edith Uduma, who was recently suspended from her post in Edo State, has been punished for gross misconduct and criminality.

Following his dismissal, he made numerous claims of innocence and attempted to tarnish the reputation and integrity of the prosecution, the inspector general of police himself, and the entire Police Force.

It may be recalled that in the video that went viral on social media, where a Police Sergeant allegedly raped a female suspect at the police station on October 7, 2024, former police inspector Edith Uduma was claimed to be a Charging Room Officer (CRO) in 2020. duty.

The video surfaced online a week after the incident took place and a thorough investigation into the matter by the Edo State Police Command revealed that the Police Sergeant, identified as Sergeant Abraham Uzuobo, took the victim out of the cell and into an empty office. where he tried to have sexual intercourse with her.

During the action, Uduma entered and recorded the action.

The Force PRO said: “However, instead of immediately making a documented entry in the matter in the Incident Register of the station under her charge and subsequently reporting the incident to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the initiation of disciplinary proceedings, she filed a lawsuit against the erring police officer, her husband Ibrahim, who is also a Police Inspector.” He took advantage of the situation to enrich himself by calling Mohammed, both of whom unlawfully conspired to demand the sum of N1,000,000 from the police to assist him in concealing the matter.

“However, the Sergeant offered only N45,000 in cash which they collected at that moment and a few days later, he contacted the Sergeant to demand the same amount of N1,000,000 but the Sergeant refused to comply. Unsatisfied with his refusal to carry out the blackmail, the police decided to report the erring officer to the DPO and also share the video on social media.”

The police stated that appropriate sanctions were imposed on all those guilty in this case as they did not intend to obstruct justice.

The erring Sergeant was dismissed and tried and is currently in prison custody as the case progresses; Inspector Uduma was also dismissed for his duty, while her accomplice husband was demoted to the rank of Corporal.
