Is mowing your lawn really the end of the world?

Is mowing your lawn really the end of the world?

President-elect Donald Trump promised mass deportation illegal immigrants While many people oversold what he could achieve after taking office, the picture is that he open border opponents The picture of a United States without illegal immigrants is not as dire as they think.

Estimates of the size of the illegal immigrant population in the United States are just that: estimates. No one has an exact count of how many illegal immigrants are in the country. The Open Borders Migration Policy Institute estimates that number to be 11 million. The conservative Center for Immigration Studies puts the number closer to 14 million. Trump campaign says 20 million. The truth is somewhere in between.

Domestic deportations, which include illegal immigrants already detained within the United States but not those detained and removed at the border, reached new lows when President Joe Biden first took office but rose slightly in 2023, the last year for which we have data.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement annual reportThe Enforcement and Deportation Operations office deported more than 140,000 illegal immigrants to more than 170 countries worldwide in 2023. Even if Trump could match his numbers and magically increase ICE’s deportation capacity tenfold, that would only mean 1.5 million deportations per year, meaning it would take about a decade to deport every illegal immigrant in the country today.

This is not happening. Especially when we consider what Trump’s border czar Tom Homan has identified as his top three priorities: closing the border, deporting illegal immigrants arrested after committing other crimes, and finding the 300,000 missing children Biden has released into the country.

In other words, if you’re an illegal immigrant who’s been arrested for drunk driving or theft, you should definitely be concerned. But if you’re living peacefully in the US, you probably don’t have much to worry about as long as you don’t get into trouble with the law.

These facts aside, many Democrats and their libertarian open border allies are trying to make it seem like the world will end if Trump somehow manages to eliminate every illegal immigrant in the country overnight.

For example, Cato Institute Vice President Scott Lincicome published a chart on X that includes data from Goldman Sachs estimating what percentage of each sector of the economy is made up of illegal immigrants. At the top of the list was “landscape services” with 19.4 percent, followed by “private households” with 17.9 percent, then “services to buildings” with 16.9 percent and finally “vegetable production” with 16.7 percent.

One of Lincicome’s followers at the time republished The chart adds: “Americans are about to learn how to maintain their own lawns, clean their own houses, do their own home repairs, and grow their own gardens. “Anyone who is nostalgic for the 1950s may not understand what this actually means.”

Oh no! More Americans will have to mow their own lawns and clean their own houses!?!?! What are we going to do!?!?!

If you’re like most Americans, if you’re lucky enough to have a lawn, you already mow your lawn and clean your house like a grown adult. The fact that a segment of the online Left is so out of touch with reality that they think it would be a huge burden for people to mow their own lawns only shows how Trump pulled off such a big victory.
