Packers QB Jordan Love ‘playing his best ball right now’

GREEN BAY – While Packers quarterback Jordan Love missed the turkey leg after the last Thanksgiving win in Detroit, he and his teammates were bound and determined to make sure Love got the reward he deserved this year.

Mission accomplished, and as Love held his turkey leg aloft toward the Lambeau Field tunnel after Thursday night’s 30-17 win over Miami, it looked like a trophy that meant a lot to him.

“It was delicious,” Love said on the postgame podium with a pretty big smile.

Love’s play of late has also been pretty good, and that’s a big reason why the Packers have positioned themselves well at 9-3 heading into December.

Since getting healthy during the bye week, which helped Love recover from both knee and groin injuries, he has posted passer ratings of 113.0, 107.7 and 129.2 in his last three games. This was after posting just a triple-digit passer rating in his first seven starts of the season.

That high note was Thursday night’s number, the best of the year, and capped off a streak of 10 consecutive quarters in which Love didn’t make an interception and the Packers’ offense didn’t turn the ball over.

“I think he’s playing his best ball right now, he really is,” Head Coach Matt LaFleur said of his quarterback. “I think he did a great job of taking what was there, making checks when they were there or making shots when they were there.”

LaFleur added that Love’s focus is to emphasize solid fundamentals and bring out the rest. It seems to be working, and unlike what Love struggled with for most of the first half of the season, it’s definitely easier to play strong on the baseline when the legs are healthy.

Love’s efficiency has the same effect throughout the offense, and there’s a lot to like about how this team has been playing lately.

“We’re building something good offensively right now,” Love said. “We’re finding that rhythm, we’re finding that rhythm and we’ve got to continue to be consistent.”

The ride isn’t entirely smooth yet — the offense was awarded three more penalties on Thursday night, two of which were false starts in the first half — but it certainly looks like it’s starting to resemble last year’s late-season run.
