One person was killed and four were injured in a vehicle-related fire on Southbound I-270 in Montgomery Co.

Southbound lanes were closed on a portion of Interstate 270 in Montgomery County Friday when two vehicles collided, causing one vehicle to catch fire, killing one person and injuring four others, according to county officials.

The crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. on I-270 near Exit 1 (Rockledge Drive and Old Georgetown Road), causing one vehicle to catch fire and trapping one person, authorities said.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), the person trapped in the car was pronounced dead at the scene and the four injured people were taken to the hospital.

Southbound lanes near the crash were closed as MCFRS crews continued their investigation and cleanup efforts. Expect delays and look for alternative routes.
