Staines: Police driver who hit cow found not guilty

Deputy Chief Constable Nev Kemp said the incident, which occurred at 00:30 GMT, raised several issues about how police respond to stray animals.

“We appreciate the strength of the remaining feelings surrounding this incident, so we are committed to conducting a diligent and thorough investigation to determine whether any wrongdoing has been committed,” he said.

“We have already made changes to our protocol regarding loose husbandry.”

The revised protocol includes deploying specialist road policing teams to support road and public safety and early contact to leverage the capacity and expertise of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

Police said that the woman had been free since 21:00 the previous day.

The day after the incident, Surrey Police announced that the driver involved had been removed from frontline duties.
