Guntur court drops bad case related to Rishiteswari suicide

Vijayawada: The Guntur district court has quashed a police case related to the 2015 suicide of Rishiteswari, an architecture student at Nagarjuna University who was allegedly harassed, stating that the prosecution failed to prove the charges.

However, the victim’s parents expressed their sadness, claiming that they could not get justice despite fighting for nine years. Durgabai, the victim’s mother, said that although they hoped for justice, they were disappointed by the court order. He added that they would need some time to decide whether to appeal the city court’s decision.

Murali Krishna, the victim’s father, questioned why his daughters’ diaries were not considered as evidence even though they openly talked about the ragging incidents. He stated that the forensic laboratory had confirmed that the handwriting in the diaries belonged to Rishiteswari.

It is noteworthy that Rishiteswari took the extreme step of leaving a suicide note on July 14, 2015, stating that she could not bear the turmoil she was facing. Pedakakani police had registered a case at that time. Rishiteswari hailed from Warangal in Telangana.
