Judge rejects Karen Read’s request to prosecute parents’ phone records – Boston News, Weather, Sports

CANTON, MASS. (WHDH) – A judge denied prosecutors’ request to obtain the phone records of Karen Read’s parents.

In making the request, prosecutors alleged that Read called her family just hours after her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, was killed.

The judge denied the request, saying it did not meet the legal requirement for the evidence to be handed over.

Read is accused of fatally attacking O’Keefe in his SUV and then leaving him for dead. His defense argued that he was framed as part of a police cover-up plan.

His first trial ended with a hung jury. Both the prosecution and defense are seeking a postponement of his retrial.
