Apple Intelligence features are finally available to everyone

First, Authoring Tools. These are integrated into iOS 18.1 system-wide, allowing users to rewrite, correct and summarize text in almost any app. This includes Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and even third-party apps.

Rewrite adjusts the tone of the message into different versions depending on the task at hand. Proofread checks grammar, spelling, word choice and sentence structure, while also providing suggestions and clarifications that can be revised. Summarization allows users to select text and get a summary in the form of an easy-to-read paragraph, bullet points, a table, or just a list.

Siri should be smarter than before, as it can now understand natural language, be more flexible and integrated into the overall system experience. With Apple Intelligence, Siri gets a new design interface with a bright light surrounding the edge of the screen. Siri can understand speech when users mash up words and maintain context from one request to the next. You can even write to Siri whenever you want. Apple has also provided Siri with extensive product information; so you can ask Siri for support on other Apple products.

The Photos app also gained some new superpowers. There is now a natural language search feature that works not only on photos but also on videos. In natural language, this means Siri can understand requests like “Maya skateboards in a tie-dye shirt.” For videos, it will jump to that specific moment in the clip that matches your query. Siri will even offer smart completion suggestions.

Priority Messages in Mail is a new section at the top of your inbox. This Priority Messages section will show you the most urgent emails, such as same-day invitations or boarding passes. You can get summaries of messages across the entire inbox, as well as summaries of long message threads, without having to open the message. There’s also Smart Reply, which identifies questions in an email and provides suggestions for quick responses to your messages.

Notifications will also be prioritized and summarized. Reduce Interruptions is also a new Focus mode that only shows notifications that may require immediate attention.

The summarization tool also works in the Notes and Phone apps. In Notes, users can record audio, convert it to text, and summarize it. The phone app now lets you record calls and participants will be notified automatically, so you’re not hampered by any privacy concerns. When a saved search ends, Apple Intelligence gives you a summary of the highlights.

These are just a few of the Apple Intelligence features now available to anyone with a compatible device in iOS 18.1.
