Harrison County couple poses as VFD members and demands .5K from auto shops

SHINNSTON, W.Va (WDTV) – A Harrison County couple was arrested after posing as members of a local volunteer fire department and taking more than $1,500 worth of merchandise from two auto stores.

Megan Swiger and Paul Swiger Jr. are accused of obtaining money, property and services under false pretenses, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said in seven separate incidents in August and September, the couple went to Advance Auto Parts in Shinnston and made multiple purchases by falsely posing as current members of the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department.

The couple had the store put the bills into the fire department’s open billing account, resulting in a total of $1,157. Deputies said they then went to Napa Auto Parts and made a purchase of $407.99 from the fire department’s open billing account.

The total value of all items was $1,564.99, deputies said.

On Monday, Megan and Paul pleaded not guilty, posted $5,000 bail each and were released from jail.
