Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who helped the Kansas City Chiefs improve to 7-0 with a 27-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, earned praise from an opposing coach for his ability to continue producing under pressure.

Koç told Athletic: Mike Sando Mahomes’ ability to control the offense even while improvising is a big reason for Kansas City’s impressive winning streak.

“It takes a lot of effort to get everyone on the same page in the benchmarking exercise,” Koç said. “Veterans are the only ones who can do it when you need it. They’re slowing down and getting worn out. Mahomes is a gladiator in the Coliseum and the lions are right on top of him.”

Mahomes completed 27 of 38 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday’s win. In total, the Chiefs won 13 straight games dating back to last season; This was the team’s second 13-game winning streak since Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback.

The 2024 Chiefs are very different from previous versions of the team with Mahomes under center because they don’t rely solely on outstripping opponents with big offensive performances to get wins. Kansas City has shown its durability time and time again, leading many to believe it will be a top-three seed in modern NFL history.

Mahomes and the Chiefs will look to improve to 8-0 when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Monday Night Football next week.
