Maine lawmaker pleads aggravated assault to domestic violence charge and is now in jail

BANGOR, Maine (WMTW) – A Maine lawmaker accused of domestic violence has surrendered to authorities.

Sanford Police say Maine State Representative Lucas Lanigan was booked into jail around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, based on an arrest warrant for domestic violence and aggravated assault.

Police said the arrest warrant was based on reports given to them on Friday.

Lanigan is a Republican who represents parts of Newfield, Shapleigh and Sanford in the Maine House.

He is currently running for re-election in the 141st District.

The case is still under investigation.
