MIAMI (WSVN) – One person died, three people were hospitalized, and one was in critical condition after the vehicles burst into flames in a two-vehicle accident in front of a high school in Miami.

Miami Fire Rescue and Miami Police arrived on the scene Monday afternoon just outside iTech, Miami’s Mega Technology Magnet High School, located at 6101 NW 2nd Avenue.

It was claimed that a school board official was the first person to notify authorities after seeing the accident.

7Skyforce hovered over the scene following the crash, where crews surrounded several burning vehicles.

The moment when one of the vehicles caught fire was revealed in the mobile phone video. Flames were seen coming out of the vehicle.

Witnesses told 7News one of the vehicles was heading north when the driver looked at his phone. The witness said that a few minutes later they heard that the accident had occurred with the explosion of flames coming from the vehicles involved.

“All I heard was boom, boom, boom, boom,” said Layma Faith Denavar, who witnessed the crash. “And we immediately got out of the car because my mom was like, ‘Oh my God, a car accident.’ We got out of the car, ran across the street that way, and we could see the flames and people at the door. “We could see them pushing kids back to school.”

“I could hear the accident and I started running here,” an eyewitness said.

“All I heard was people screaming, flames and explosions,” said another eyewitness, Lance Elijah. “Then we all had to go in.”

According to rescue teams, at least one person was thrown from the vehicles and was injured.

7News cameras captured the moment the man, who was in critical condition, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

According to Miami Police, four victims were involved, one of whom tragically lost his life in the crash.

None of the victims involved in the crash had any connection to the school.

“One of the vehicles you can see behind us actually appears to have lost control, went over the curb and struck several stationary objects and two vehicles,” Miami Police Department Capt. Freddy Cruz said. “Now when they hit the vehicles, something happened and this vehicle burst into flames. “Two people managed to get out of one of the vehicles.”

Roads remain closed between Northwest 60th Street and 61st Street and Second Avenue.

The vehicle did not contact the school.

An investigation is ongoing into what caused the accident.
