Teacher who allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl was given house arrest

BALTIMORE — A judge granted home detention to a Baltimore City Public School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a child.

Lewis Laury Jr., 24, taught U.S. history at Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School. He was arrested this summer and charged with second-degree rape and third-degree sexual offense.

This stems from his alleged relationship with a 12-year-old girl who was reported missing on June 21.

The girl reportedly left a note for her mother saying she was going to Pennsylvania to meet a friend.

Police learned the girl was using someone else’s phone to stay in touch with the man she was talking to. That phone belonged to Laury.

That led investigators to Laury’s apartment in the apartment complex where the girl lived.

In an interview with detectives, she told Laury she was 22 and that they had consensual unprotected sex multiple times.
