Man faces charges after grow operation discovered at scene of deputy shooting

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home on Sandy Pines Drive on the afternoon of Oct. 23 by the homeowner. elroy clarke. The sheriff’s office said Clarke tried to remove Troy Johnson, who lived on the property.

“He was basically a landlord type tenant, Troy was there, they had a disagreement, he wanted Troy off the property,” Sheriff Bill Prummell said at a news conference Friday.

Sheriff Prummell said at the scene, deputies discovered that Clarke had a warrant for his arrest.

Ultimately, Clarke attacked a deputy who fired his service weapon, killing Clarke, according to CCSO. Following the incident, Sheriff Bill Prummell said a grow operation was located on the property, which led to the charges against Johnson.

Inside a “barn-style structure” on the property, investigators found “humidifiers, tents used to grow marijuana, and two rooms containing suspected marijuana in various stages of growth,” according to a probable cause statement. State PCA investigators found a total of 384 suspected marijuana plants.

Additionally, the PCA states that investigators found “one corner of the room was an area that appeared to be used for sleeping.” “In the same place, there were suitcases containing men’s clothes, bottles that appeared to be urine, and two photo IDs bearing the name of Emperor Crown Prince Troy Bey.”

The PCA notes that there are other identifiers for Johnson’s nickname, “Mr. Troy.” Investigators also found a 12-gauge shotgun in the living quarters, according to the PCA.

Johnson currently faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and possession or use of drug paraphernalia, according to the investigation.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in court on December 2.
