Alice Guo faces Comelec misrepresentation charges

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday filed charges of material misrepresentation against suspended Bamban and Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.

Survey body presented the charges Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said before the Regional Trial Court in Tarlac.

The filing of the charges was alleged because the Comelec did not receive a motion for reconsideration regarding its decision to submit information against Guo for violation of Section 74 in relation to Section 262 of the Omnibus Elections Act.

“He declared in his COC (candidacy) that he is a Filipino citizen and a resident of Bamban, Tarlac, but in reality he is not,” the Comelec’s Oct. 8 decision said.

The Comelec learned that Guo’s fingerprints on voting records matched the fingerprints of a Chinese woman named Guo Hua Ping at the National Bureau of Investigation.

In addition to election crimes, Guo also faces charges of corruption, aggravated human trafficking, money laundering and tax evasion, and is likewise being investigated by Congress for his alleged ties to Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogo). He is currently detained in Pasig City jail.

Guo’s lawyer claims that the previously dismissed mayor run for re-election Even in the midst of these accusations, the former mayor withdrew the offer.
