Hasnat and Sarjis withdraw the letter demanding the suspension of the activities of AL and 10 other parties

Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah and Hasibul Islam, coordinators of the Student Movement Against Discrimination, decided not to implement the court’s directives seeking writs to prevent 11 parties, including the Awami League, from engaging in political activities.

It was also announced that they would not proceed with another article questioning the legitimacy of the last three parliamentary elections (10th, 11th and 12th).

The two articles were listed under numbers 208 and 209 in the Supreme Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikdar Mahmdur Raji this morning (October 29).

As the morning hearing began, the petitioners’ lawyer Ahsanul Karim informed the court that his clients would not continue to enforce the two writs.

Later, the court decided to remove the minutes from the list.

Presented yesterday (October 28) and supported by Awami League (AL), Jatiya Party (Ershad), Jatiya Party (Manju), Ganatantri Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Sect Federation of Bangladesh, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Bangladesh Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) (Barua) and Bangladesh Socialist Party.

In response to their inclusion in the petition, the LDP called for an apology from the petitioners; CPB said that mentioning these may have been due to a misunderstanding and Jatiya Party (Ershad) said they would take up the matter through legal means.
