Police are looking for the Internal Affairs officer who carried out the fake marriage raid

Authorities raided what was believed to be a secret Internal Affairs Bureau building in Berea on Monday.

Three suspects were arrested on charges of fraud and perverting the course of justice.

After receiving criminal intelligence, a policewoman was sent undercover to pretend she wanted to get married.

He rang the alarm and entered officers from the SAPS, Hawks and Metro Police, who were standing by.

When employees reached the first floor, they began tearing up documents, officials said.

The operators of the business are accused of facilitating fake marriages by using the identity documents of South African women they did not know to marry them to undocumented foreign nationals.

Most of the people involved are not in the country and will apparently be obtaining spousal visas, which they will use to enter South Africa.

It was claimed that the suspects demanded a fee of around 18 thousand lira from the people.

Three suspects were arrested on charges of fraud and perverting the course of justice.

KZN police spokesman Robert Netshiunda says they believe this is a large organisation.

“We have determined that there is an Internal Affairs officer working with suspects who are likely to be identified.

“So we believe he will be arrested and there could be more.”

They will appear in court soon.
