Kerala court rejects CPI(M) leader Divya’s bail plea

– Kannur: A Kerala court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of CPI(M) leader PP Divya, who is accused of abetting the suicide of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu.

Chief District and Sessions Judge, Thalassery, KT Nissar Ahammed passed the order rejecting the plea filed by Divya, former president of Kannur district panchayat. Details of the order are awaited.

Divya, who attended the send-off ceremony on October 14 to which she was allegedly not invited, had criticized Babu for delaying the approval of a petrol pump in Chengalai by several months and stated that he had given approval only two days after her transfer, implying that she knew the reasons behind this incident. sudden approval.

The next day, Babu was found dead in his house in Kannur.
Divya appeared in the Thalassery Sessions Court on October 19 and sought bail after the police filed a case against her for abetting ADM’s suicide under Section 108 of the BNSS.

Babu’s family welcomed the court’s decision.

Reacting to the verdict, Babu’s widow Manjusha said, “The person who destroyed our lives should be arrested and we will do everything to get justice.”

“I have nothing more to say but we will go all the way,” Manjusha told reporters at her home in Malayalappuzha in Pathanamthitta district.
Divya had earlier told the court during the bail plea hearing that her remarks against ADM were based on corruption complaints she had received against him.

Divya’s lawyer had also informed the court that Kannur District Collector had told her about Babu’s farewell ceremony and asked if she would attend and Divya had replied in the affirmative.

To counter Divya’s allegations, the prosecution submitted the statement of Kannur District Collector stating that Divya was never invited to the function and requested him not to make any allegations of corruption at the event.

The lawyer representing Babu’s family had stated that both he and the prosecution opposed Divya’s bail plea, especially since Divya was removed from the post of District Panchayat President by the CPI(M) after she was accused of abetting ADM’s suicide.

The lawyer had added that the prosecution had strongly opposed Divya’s bail request on various grounds, including that it was “pre-planned” for Divya to make these allegations, that she could manipulate evidence, and that she was not cooperating with the Revenue Department’s investigation.

The prosecution had also informed the court that there was no complaint of corruption against Babu.
